Case StudiesMLA HoldingsEstablished in 1980 to market Mitsubishi forklifts in Australia, MLA Holdings has forged a successful path via its policy to represent the best quality equipment and employ the most practical and innovative staff. MLA’s steady growth and desire to own company premises were the catalysts for their recent relocation from Rydalmere to Wetherill Park in January 2008. The company’s new premises are more than double the size of the Rydalmere site. A recent interview with MLA’s Materials Services Manager, George Darnton, revealed that this relocation led to the need for a raised storage area, pallet racking and a hand loaded storage system. It was an Internet search based on hand loaded storage that led Mr. Darnton to www.displayandstorage.com. “From the very beginning, Display & Storage stood out. Everyone was professional and friendly, from the Sales Director to the men installing our systems,” commented Mr. Darnton. The level of involvement and interest that the entire team showed in the project also impressed him. Faced with obstacles that would potentially affect the timely completion of the project, Mr. Darnton revealed that the DSG team was unfazed: “I called about an issue from our end that meant a change to the dimensions of the raised storage area would be required at about 5pm on the Friday prior to installation, knowing that this would be a pretty big spanner in the works. Within minutes, the sales and design teams had come back to me with a solution, and the installation commenced at 8am the next Monday, not a minute later than the originally scheduled time.” A fundamental belief at DSG is that we should always find solutions, regardless of the problem. When asked about the key measures of success of the project, Mr. Darnton was pleased to share that his three key measures were met and exceeded by the DSG team. These were: cost effectiveness, job completion meeting specifications, and accurate, on time delivery and installation. In summing up his experience with DSG, Mr. Darnton said “I can’t emphasise enough how great the whole experience with Display & Storage was.”
NDD DistributionNDD Distribution markets and distributes a huge range of magazine titles to retailers across Australia on a weekly basis. With over 60000 magazines distributed weekly from their Villawood distribution centre, NDD required a comprehensive, streamlined solution. “We needed to house over 1500 titles with easy access for packing and distribution,” commented the NSW Distribution Manager. Along with this, one of NDD’s main requirements was a series of benches for efficient bundling and packing of magazines. “With operations such as NDD’s, and a working space of 5500 square metres, it was important not to overcomplicate their solution,” said Graham Eastick, Managing Director. “We decided that selective Schaefer racking would properly store the magazines to allow for maximum visibility and efficient picking.” Another section of the distribution centre was then selected for a run of six benches constructed from racking materials. Longspan shelving was also installed nearby for display of smaller quantities of popular magazine titles. This scope offered within the solution was one of the main contributing factors in NDD’s choice to use DSG’s solutions. Value and simplicity also played major roles in their decision: "It is great to know that we are using the world’s best racking products and that all of our materials handling equipment is from the one supplier." |
